Nineteen organic wine gold medals in Debrecen, here is the list of the best wines!
The XVI. Winners of the National Organic Wine Competition on Tuesday. The list of the best of the white, red and dessert wine categories was revealed at the press conference connected with the tasting. The international jury awarded a total of 19 wines.
They are popularized
Lajos Fazekas, managing director of Aquaticum Debrecen Kft., the main sponsor of the event, said at the event that they are committed to the consumption and promotion of cultured Hungarian wines. “The viticulture and winemaking philosophy represented by the competition participants is extremely respectable,” he explained.
Péter Lefler, wine inspector of Biokontroll Hungária Nonprofit Kft., called the competition and the announcement of its results a real celebration. – All such events and meetings are good events for deepening the opportunities for winemakers to introduce themselves. The promotion of organic wines and their celebration is extremely important, he emphasized.
Great job
Pál Kovács, a member of the Hungarian Wine Academy and the main organizer of the competition, said that Hortobágy is the largest organic area in Hungary, where organic production has been taking place for almost forty years. So they thought back then, based on this, they are trying to lure organic wines to Debrecen. – Since 2014, this is the only purely organic wine competition in the country – he pointed out. The main organizer in Hungary said that the participating 15 wineries represent the pinnacle of current Hungarian organic farming and organic winemaking. And even though the scoring was stricter for traditionally made wines, 19 of the 53 submitted wines won gold medals.
If you have to praise someone in Hungary, then those participating wineries represent an astonishing standard
said Pál Kovács.
As it turned out, the judges came from 3 countries, two committees tested the lines separately, and the wines they recommended made it to a triple semi-final. Among the finalists, top wines, so-called Champions were chosen, which – as in previous years – can participate in the world’s largest organic wine competition, the 2023 Mundus Vini Biofach in Germany.
Based on the final results of the 2022 National Organic Wine Competition, the top wine in the white wine category was the Solaris 2021 drink from Gyukli Pince (Balatonfüred), and the 2017 Soproni Cabernet Franc from Horváth Borászat (Sopron) among the red wines. The special prize of the Hungarian Wine Academy was won by the 2021 Rókaluki Italian Riesling of Szászi Birtok (Hegymagas). In the dessert wine category, Gyukli Cellar’s 2020 Solaris dessert won the gold medal alone.
