Russian Ambassador to Riga Mikhail Vanin declaredthat Russia will not impose restrictions on entry into the country in response to Latvia’s action. “The consular department of the Russian embassy resolves all visa issues that come to us,” he added, in fact, noting that relations between Moscow and Riga are at a low level.
At the same time, the diplomat did not rule out provocations with the issuance of visas for categories of citizens who have not yet been affected by restrictions. “Knowing the “creativity” of our colleagues from the Latvian Foreign Ministry and its subsequent structures, it is not assumed that some of the above-mentioned groups are also subjected to provocative approaches, ending with a refusal to enter Latvia,” he said.
According to his instructions, the restrictions do not apply to holders of category D securities, which can be withdrawn and work on a permanent basis in one of the countries of the Schengen Committee. Employees of the Russian embassy, their families and diplomatic couriers are also singled out.
