The large skatepark with an area of 810 square meters is intended for the more experienced skateboarder and consists of approximately thirteen obstacles. The smaller skatepark is intended especially for younger riders on scooters and skateboards. The creators designed it in a triangular plan shape and its area is 158 square meters. “The history of Czech skateboarding dates back to 1977, and as a leisure sport it is becoming more and more popular, now it is even an Olympic sport. That is also why we decided to build a skatepark in Staré. A sports field of this type has been missing here for a long time,” said Ivo Komárek, councilor of Brno-střed for the area of investments and management of apartment buildings.
The municipality invested almost 6.6 million crowns in building the skate park.
The park modifications of the surrounding greenery followed the area of the skate park. The modifications also affected the surface of the original grass field for ball games. There is a workout sports field on site, the park has new tables, benches and also a public fire pit. The area of the workout field is connected by a wooden staircase made of acacia wood, which uses terrain modeling and can also serve as a seating area.

The footpath leading from the monastery wall on Trýbova Street has a newly paved surface and is also bordered by acacia beams. The design of the park improvements came from the workshop of the well-known garden architect Eva Wagnerová together with Ivan Zbořil. “The skatepark, workout and multifunctional playground are the first steps in the significant transformation of the forgotten location above the Old Brno monastery, which, I believe, will serve well for the sports and recreational activities of the local residents. Next year, we will renovate the viewpoint at Tomešová street and we are also working on preparing the construction of a children’s center. In the future, these green activities will be connected by pedestrian paths to the new park on Žluťák, which connects Old Brno with the Masaryk district,” outlined Brno-centre councilor for construction and spatial planning, Petr Bořecký.
Park improvements and furnishing required an investment of 2.4 million crowns. Next year, the second stage of the project is to build on the existing green park improvements between Trýbová and Tomešová streets. It includes modeling of the terrain, landscaping, the planting of trees and meadow lawns and the regeneration of the existing viewpoints, a descending staircase to the panel path near the gardens and the addition of furniture are part of it.
