Chabr (TOP 09): Prague and CTU will transform the Strahov Stadium into a European technology and testing center
22/09/2022 7:33 | Press Release
The neglected Strahov Stadium will undergo an extensive repair and will be transformed into a center for innovative companies and testing of the most modern technologies. The stadium will thus become a global space again, now for the most promising entrepreneur.
Strahov is synonymous with a sports stadium, but soon a state-of-the-art technology center will be built here, thanks mainly to the cooperation of the Prague municipality and CTU. The repaired grandstands, originally for up to 250,000 including spectators, will offer sufficient space for testing technologies, up to testing – for example, robots.
“The goal is to create an innovative world under the banner of CTU in cooperation with the Student Union of CTU. In the first phase, CTU will acquire the commentators’ spaces in the east stand of the stadium on loan, where the first start-ups will begin to settle. In cooperation with Průša Research, a test laboratory will also be established here. In the future, the plans are much bigger, and I hope that the reconstruction of the entire eastern stand, and then also other parts of the stadium, will be carried out,” says Prague councilor for property Jan Chabr.
“We are planning the project gradually with partners. From the smaller space in the eastern stand to the subsequent repair of larger spaces. We want to invite representatives of important companies to this. We are already in initial negotiations and more will follow,” says CTU vice-rector Veronika Kramaříková.
National and European innovation projects will be created in Strahov. At the same time, the plan is to closely link the business and academic environments, ten thousand students in the immediate vicinity of the stadium will have the opportunity to connect with innovative companies, on the other hand, entrepreneurs from the Czech Republic and abroad will have the opportunity to reach out to new talents. “Finally, offer students a space where they can get to know and try out the most modern technologies, develop their ideas and possibly start their own business with them. In return, the partners get the opportunity to reach out to new talent. In Prague, the center of the economy of the future will be created from a neglected stadium, literally within sight of Prague Castle,” says CTU rector Vojtěch Petráček.

After the renovation, the space will provide students with a quality background for testing technologies and business startups. Innovative Prague companies will get direct access to research, and foreign entrepreneurs will find enough space for their activities in Strahov, right in the heart of the European Union.
The representative of Průša Research partner Ondřej Kašpárek adds to the monumental plan: “Each partner has a slightly different role and we consider it important to be there right from the start.” Tomáš Pluhařík for the DLTG investment fund continues: “We know how to adjust the space to serve as students and entrepreneurs. We already have temporary offices there and in the portfolio of start-ups, which many are interested in. It’s about creating a functional, but also symbolic space that will support the spirit of innovation and the courage to take risks.”
And that this is what CTU students will especially appreciate, confirms the president of the Student Union, Ivana Dvořáková: “For students, this project is a significant step forward in gaining professional experience and a unique step towards establishing international cooperation. We look forward to the challenges that the project will bring.”
The memorandum was signed by CTU Rector Vojtěch Petráček, CTU Student Union President Ivana Dvořáková, Prague councilor for property Jan Chabr and representatives of the partners – 3D printer manufacturer Průša Research together with venture studio and investment fund DLTG.
