Thailand: Its model for attracting long-term visitors and residents to Greece | News about the Economy
All developed as well as emerging tourist destinations are attempting, especially in recent years, to attract to host for a long-term stay aiming to strengthen their economies.
The targeting, moves at various levels and involves people who provide online work services to professionals who move for a period of time for work reasons to physical presence in the destinations. Recently, of course, there have also been cases of visits from northern countries who want to come to southern destinations for the winter due to energy costs thinking that accommodation will be cheaper than staying in their country.
This model is trying to be promoted for our country by the Minister of Tourism Mr. Vassilis Kikilias aiming to open the season for some Greek destinations that have the infrastructure and services to adopt the said model. In fact, during the bilateral visit that started, yesterday, in Vienna, he found a positive response from the Austrians for the good of Greece to come in Autumn and Winter to our country. Mr. Kikilias co-signed with his Austrian counterpart, Susanne Kraus Winkler, Agreement to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in the field of Tourism.
The agreement touches on issues such as sustainable tourism development and tourism education, while also including further cooperation in thematic forms of tourism, such as sports tourism, agritourism and wellness tourism, with the aim of pursuing the tourist season and attracting Austrians to our country in the fall.
However, one country that is considered to be running a program to attract long-term residents is Thailand, which has introduced a new long-term entry visa, as reported in a report by the Economic and Commercial Affairs Office of the Greek Embassy in Bangkok.
The Thai model
This is a program for long-term residentswhich provides a range of tax and non-tax benefits to enhance the country’s attractiveness as a regional hub for ‘high-potential’ foreigners to live and do business.
