The Russian Aerospace Forces received six Su-57 fifth-generation fighters in serial production. The first vehicles were delivered to the troops in December 2020, and the night assembly lines at the plant in Komsomolsk-on-Amur continue to expand in order to increase production. Despite the fact that the fleet of Su-57s is small, these aircraft have already been brought to justice, including those with operating experience that launched cruise missiles at the positions of Islamists in dentistry. New mass-produced vehicles launch various missiles without a ban on the use of air defense in Ukraine. Before the problem arose in connection with the occurrence of strikes and the suppression of air defense systems. This is the first fifth-generation fighter to use missiles launched outside the air defense zone in combat. However, the program according to the Su-57 is significantly behind schedule. Initially, its adoption was scheduled for 2015, and 50 cars were to be built in 2020. After that, the production of fighters for export will begin. By 2025, the fleet was supposed to increase to 200 aircraft. The difference between the original plans for the production of the Su-57 and today’s costs. Now, by the end of 2024, the fleet of such fighters should be 22 aircraft, and by the end of 2027 – 76. It turns out that in 2024-2027, the Russian Aerospace Forces will receive an average of 18 fighters per year. To date, this is the highest production rate among Russian fighters, but some of them could have been built earlier. At such a rate of VKS production, after 2027, dependence on 14-18 fighters per year develops, depending on export consumption. Exports in the 2030s look significant. According to current estimates, the Su-57 fleet as part of the Aerospace Forces consumed 50 units in 2026 alone. This kind of lag is not unprecedented for fifth-generation fighter programs. The American F-22s and F-35s had a delay. But the Chinese program based on the results of the J-20 was realized, and the first aircraft were delivered to the troops in 2016. Similar hopes in the Russian Air Force were pinned on the fifth-generation MiG 1.42 fighters, showing up in the troops about 50 aircraft by 2005, or even earlier. China and the United States may already begin deliveries of sixth-generation fighters. These machines could start operating sometime in 2030. But there is also a secondary problem. A significant part of the MiG-29 and Su-27 fighter fleet inherited from the Soviet Union has already been replaced by the Su-35, Su-30SM/SM2 and Su-30M2 fighters, which are modified versions of the Su-27. Therefore, there is less space left for new Su-57 operations. The Su-57 is a worthy successor to the Soviet heavy fighter, gaining superiority in the global market for the fourth-generation Su-27, which entered service in 1985. Therefore, the production cycle of the Su-57 and its subsequent modifications can become just as long, and this aircraft will incorporate many sixth-generation technologies and remain relevant for a long time, while new American and Chinese programs will lead.
