RADU HANGA, PRESIDENT OF THE BUCHAREST STOCK EXCHANGE: “Romania can help the development of the capital market in the Republic of Moldova” – 13.09.2022
We have learned some things here, in Romania, we have developed systems that can help the development of the capital market in the Republic of Moldova, declared, today, during a specialized forum, the president of the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB), Radu Hanga, according to Agerpres.
“The capital market in the Republic of Moldova is underdeveloped”, this is a story you hear wherever you walk in central and eastern Europe. Every market in the region talks about it, considering it undeveloped. And we, I think, in our tight circle say that we still have many steps to take. My father says that history is not over, that is, all of us – people, institutions – are in a process of growth. Probably the most boring moment in the world is when you come to the conclusion that you’re perfect, you’ve done everything that needs to be done, and that’s when you have to go home. As long as we stop looking in the mirror and saying we still have things to do, I think it’s very good. I really believe that I have learned some things here in Romania, I have done some things, I have developed systems that can help the development of the capital market in the Republic of Moldova”, said Hanga.
He believes that every area needs a scale to help local companies grow.
“Companies are not born big. It is difficult for Moldova Agroindbank to become number 1 in the banking market in Moldova, it is difficult to become a market leader. Of course, we have peculiarities here in the region, because we went through a regime change . 30 years ago. SOEs became private, but in the normal world no company is born big, it needs to go through some stages. One of these stages is funding and visibility. it helps local companies to develop. Sure that external steps also help, such as the Bucharest Stock Exchange and the help it can give to Moldovan companies to increase their visibility and coverage area. Chisinau and operation. We already have expertise in this area, we have the example of Purcari – a Moldovan company that also has operations in Romania and that was listed in 2018. It raised 40 million euros, it has become one of the most visible companies on the Bucharest Stock Exchange. I would say even more than that : it is a company that, along with others, does not learn that the stock market is not only about financing”, emphasized the BVB president.
Hanga appreciated Moldova Agroindbank’s interest in the Romanian capital market as a financing and development option.
“We, those who invest in listed companies, see the products on store shelves in Romania, in Moldova. The relationship between us and the company is strengthening. The company, I think, benefits not only from the fact that they are access to capital, but also from another other kind of relationship with its consumers. We are glad that Moldova Agroindbank is looking at the Bucharest Stock Exchange as a financing option, as a development option. We are here to help you. You are a different case than Purcari, because you are already listed in Chisinau. We are happy to take this step and we are not looking ahead and we are waiting for other companies from Moldova to explore opportunities to collaborate between the markets and the Bucharest Stock Exchange can offer them”, stated Radu Hanga.
Moldova Agroindbank (Maib), a commercial bank from the Republic of Moldova, together with the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB) and Wood&Co, Raiffeisen Bank International and with the support of the Government of the Republic of Moldova, organizes, on Tuesday, the Forum Moldova – Romania: Capital Bridges.
