Prague 8 opened an exhibition by Vladimír Boudník | PRAGUE 8 | News
Vladimír Boudník is sought after as one of the most original artists of the Czech post-war modern period. He was not only a visionary of modern graphics but also the founder of the Explosionism movement. The citizens of Prague 8 can admire the first part of Boudník’s works from the Ztichlá klika Gallery collection in the Center for History and Culture “Libeňský svět”.
“We met with the Placák brothers, who are the owners of Mr. Boudník’s work, and with their common will we succeeded in bringing the matter to the opening. And I am very happy about that, because Mr. Boudník is closely connected with Libní, together with Bohumil Hrabal,” says the mayor City Hall Prague 8 Ondřej Gros.
An important milestone in Vladimír Boudník’s life was the meeting with the writer Bohumil Hrabal. Both became good friends and subsequently inspired and influenced each other artistically.
“They helped each other. And that Libeň was an extremely huge source of inspiration. Those visits to local restaurants. Libeň was great in that in the 1950s the intelligentsia was displaced from the center and at the same time it was working-class. So sometimes craftsmen, workers, philosophers, artists, artists or writers,” adds Michal Švarc, councilor of the Municipal Council of Prague 8.
Among the most significant creative periods of Vladimír Boudník is the turn of the 50s and 60s of the 20th century.
“Actually, he was already recognized by ordinary society, although not enough, of course. His graphics began to appear in books as well. He began to organize spontaneous exhibitions, not only in factories and clubs, but also began to use exhibition spaces that were used to exhibit goals,” he added councilor of Prague 8 municipal council Michal Švarc.
The first part of the most extensive collection will be open to the public in the Center of History and Culture until the end of March next year. Finally, there will be an exhibition that will present the next stage of Boudník’s work.
