The Debrecen Big Band will be marching with the waltzers again this year
The performers are preparing full steam ahead for this year’s Flower Carnival, as they have a significant role: they are responsible for the atmosphere of the parade. The Debrecen Big Band will join the parade this year with thirty musicians, although the band consists of 20 people, but their young, talented friends will also join them for the carnival. László Daróczi, the leader of the band, shared with our portal that all sections have been expanded, but it will be especially worth watching the formation and musical play of the 5-member percussion section.
Already the leader of the team, the orchestra, Rutinos participated in his first flower carnival 43 years ago, in 1979, and since then he has been a recurring performer with various formations, with minor or major omissions.
The Flower Carnival brings something new every year. We also try to renew our production, always delighting the audience with something different. We like challenges, we like the time spent working during preparation, because this way we can create a new
says László Daróczi. He believes that it is difficult to describe what it feels like to see a smiling, cheerful person at the parade, to express it, you have to experience it, the members of their big band are captivated by the magic of the carnival every time.
With Valcer and Bálint Gájer
In recent years, when they have performed, a nationally known singer has always joined the band, and they always prepare a surprise. – True to our traditions, we developed our carnival production together with the Valcer Dance Studio. As a result of the joint work with the waltzes, we have already achieved several international and flower carnival first places. This year, the Prince of Swing, Bálint Gájer, who is the originator and leading figure of today’s Hungarian swing’n pop music style, will join our formation. It will be a novelty that it was arranged for this year’s Flower Carnival by Dániel Hofecker – to whom the most famous American jazz magazine, Downbeat, awarded this year the Outstanding Composition award in the jazz big band category – a well-known swing number – introduced the details.
The parade starts on August 20 at 9:00 a.m. from Szent Anna Street. The 13 flower carts roll all the way to the Nagyerdei Stadium, accompanied by domestic and foreign dancers and traditionalist groups.
