Anyone can get into a difficult life situation, but only a few can get out of it on their own. Currently, three to six thousand homeless people roam the streets of Prague. There are many organizations that help these people in need. They operate a network of social services and asylum centers are among them. The editors of eXtra.cz have mapped the places of help.
Do you know someone in your area who may have had debts and the consequence of his irresponsibility was losing a roof over your head? Or maybe you know a person who lost their parents, couldn’t take care of themselves as an adult, and therefore ended up on a concrete floor. Everyone can help. According to portal of the capital city of Prague there are over fifty shelters throughout Prague providing food and care for those who are on a journey through life they lost.
In Prague, we can also find hostels or low-threshold day centers. A substantial part of them falls under four organizations, viz international movement Salvation Army, Civic Association Hope, Diakonia Evangelical Czech Brethren Church AND Charity Czech Republic. There are also other organizations in the capital, which specialize in helping people try to integrate them back into society. These include, for example, civic associations New Space or Hedgehog and gosling.
Tent city
In exceptional cases, when the weather is not favorable, the capital city of Prague also provides ambulatory assistance in the field. This was the case, for example, in 2006, when it grew tent town on Letná. At the present time The tent city is located below the Holešovice market.
Asylum houses
The eXtra.cz editors took pictures from places where homeless people are well taken care of, and we visited them themselves. Houses providing assistance to the homeless include: Asylum for families with children in Horáčková Street, Asylum in Spytihněvov or Asylum St. Terezia in Pernerova Street.
