King all over Prague and running from the police. Escalators became fatal for him
At the beginning of August, police officers from the local Krakovská department dealt with a series of burglaries on Wenceslas Square, which was the responsibility of an unknown man. In the course of one hour, he broke into a total of four buildings, where he left damage worth tens of thousands of crowns.
First, he broke into a hotel, where he lured out a hotel guest under a fictional legend, and then the rooms tried to steal his room. He then proceeded to the bookstore, where he smashed a display case and stole several sets of fancy fountain pens. After this theft, he headed across the roofs of the buildings to another hotel where he pryed open the door, but was interrupted by security. In another hotel, he broke the balcony door and stole a mobile phone from the room.
When the police officers of the Krakovská department arrived at the scene of the first theft, according to local camera footage, the suspect man was caught and they immediately started looking for him. Within minutes, one of the officers spotted a man matching the suspect’s description on the street and went after him. He didn’t wait for anything and ran to the metro station Můstek.
The suspicious man did not want to be caught at any cost and ran away from the policeman through almost all the hallways in the lobby. Both put on a performance worthy of athletes, and after several runs down and up the stairs, running up the escalators, and playing hide and seek behind the boarding pillars, the one with more sense and experience won. The pursued policeman tried to shake off the determined man by running up a long flight of escalators. However, he did not notice that they were going in the opposite direction. The experienced policeman knew that after such a physical performance it was not worth running out or trying, so he waited for his moment downstairs. Meanwhile, the young man was running in place approximately five meters away from him, practicing technique as if on a treadmill. As time went by, the distance between them began to shorten and the powers waned. In the end, completely exhausted, he came to the prepared policeman, who pacified the man and, with the help of a foreign police patrol, they together restricted him to personal freedom.
Lustrací found out that he is a thirty-six-year-old recidivist who is wanted nationwide because he is avoiding serving his sentence, where he was sent by the court in eighteen months for property crime. From the detention that was imposed on him, he went straight to serving his sentence, which can be extended, after another appearance in court, by up to another three years.
