Convicted ex-deputy Koval expelled from United Russia party – North-West |
St. Petersburg. August 15. INTERFAX NORTH-WEST – The Presidium of the regional political council of United Russia on Monday expelled ex-deputy of the St. Petersburg Legislative Assembly Roman Koval from the party, the press service of the regional branch told Interfax.
“The Presidium of the St. Petersburg Regional Council of United Russia decided to expel Roman Koval from the party, who was sentenced to a period of observation,” the statement says.
The decision was made in accordance with the party charter. It is specified that Koval’s membership was suspended back in 2020.
As reported, on Thursday the Vyborgsky District Court of St. Petersburg sentenced Koval to nine years in prison and a fine of 35 million rubles for taking a bribe (parts 5 and 6 of article 290 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). In addition, he held the right to hold a position in the public service for eight years.
The court found that Koval, being a member of the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg of the sixth convocation from the United Russia party, in 2020 personally and through the mediation of assistant Andrei Grishin received a bribe in the form of money and an Audi Q7 car for a total of almost 17 million rubles for making and accepting deputy amendments to the draft “On the budget of St. Petersburg”, provided to public health institutions for the purchase of equipment and natural resources.
