[Volley] The Luxembourgers still stumble on Portugal
Like three days earlier, the Luxembourg volleyball players lost 0-3 against Portugal on Saturday evening.
The Luxembourg volleyball players conceded another defeat against Portugal three sets to nil (17-25, 16-25, 20-25) in qualifying for the European Championship.
Far from being out of the running in the first set, Dascalu Pompiliu’s players had several opportunities to break at 10-9, then 12-11 before the Portuguese reversed the balance of power by betting on a greater presence at the net to get around the opposing wall and go to win the first set (17-25).
The Grand Duchy players are still in the lead in the second set thanks to their Weber-Gajin-Zuidberg trio. The two formations are at full speed, the rallies follow one another and the locals hold the good end (7-5, then 11-10) but do not manage to win their opponent who gradually returns to the score at 12-12 before to emerge victorious from the important points and to break away (12-17). Finally, Ferreira’s arms will end up making the difference and will give the visitors a two-point lead (16-25).
In fact, the teammates of Gilles Braas consume a big blow on the coffee maker and collect a big wave of entry in the third set (2-7). The Lusitanians roll out and nothing will even make the locals jump with pride, especially on several well-considered serves from Erpelding which will give the score a less substantial gap (20-25). Next match: August 17 with the reception of Iceland.
