The Australian world champion at the Debrecen Grand Prix!
The start of the 36-year-old world star is also special in the life of the city of Cívis, because the last time the individual world champion competed in Debrecen exactly 32 years ago, on August 20, 1990, was the time when the Hajdúság audience could admire the characteristic racing style of Hans Nielsen, the iconic clay player of the Danes.
But back to today’s excellence: In 2015, Doyle made it to the world’s best dirt bike Grand Prix, where he continues to play a decisive role to this day. The Aussie was already close to a miracle in 2016, as he led the points hunt with two rounds to go before the end of the GP-series, which hurt him in the first race of the penultimate race, and ended this year – he ended the series in 5th place. Doyle peaked in 2017 when he won the individual world championship gold medal. In the GP, the classy motorcyclist with start number 69 is a member of the narrow group who have an individual world championship title as an active clay rider: in addition to Doyle, the Polish Bartosz Zmarzlik, the British Tai Woffinden and the also Australian Chris Holder were already world leaders. (Nicki Pedersen is currently unable to ride a motorcycle due to a serious injury, while Russian Artyom Laguta was banned from racing by the international federation.)
Just one month ago, Doyle won another gold medal: at the Speedway of Nations (team world championship) held in Denmark at the end of July, he was able to stand on the top step of the podium with Jack Holder and Max Fricke.
The organizers of the Debrecen Grand Prix, starting at 15:00 on Saturday, August 20, promise that they are working on signing opponents who can make Jason Doyle’s job very difficult.
