In the first half of 2022, 410 million decaliters of beer were brewed in Russia. This is the highest figure in the last seven years. According to the Beer Producers’ Association (BEA), in the same period last year, the production of hoppy beer increased by 2.7%. It’s just not clear where it all went.
The fact is that beer consumption from January to June increased in annual terms by 1.4% – up to 356.6 million decaliters, and its consumption amounted to 1% – up to 24.5 liters per person. Apparently, many beer lovers have switched from imported products to the Russian analogy due to rising incomes and the withdrawal of foreign brands. Therefore, the output of domestic products grew against the backdrop of unusually high sales.
This version also refers to the dynamics of excise duties. In general, they jumped by 2.4% to 69.9 billion rubles, while the amount of excise duties on Russian beer increased by 4.4%, and on imported beer fell by 28.5%. The average retail price of a liter of beer increased by almost 13% over the year and reached 165.3 rubles. The main rise in prices came in March-April.
In the general restriction of the consumption of alcoholic beverages, the share of beer was consumed – by 1.6%, up to 38.6%. Drinking and wine became slightly less (by 1.3%), now it occupies 11.5%. But strong alcohol, on the contrary, added 3% and reached the highest levels since 2017 – 48.4% in a wide range of consumption.
