In the new Polish game we will also go to Prague » Vortex
Independent Polish studio Swimming Scorpions is preparing the car game Petrol Blood, which is set in the countries of the former Eastern Bloc. The title is set in an alternate timeline and the eighties. Everyone lives in fear of state terror and police brutality, developers say. We will follow the story from the perspective of two experienced drivers. The authors invite action on bikes with unique stealth elements and battles with bosses in the form of cars, each of which has a unique design and weaknesses. However, according to their words, they connect totalitarian dystopia with exaggeration, crazy tricks, gadgets and car modifications.
Petrol Blood is supposed to be a love letter to the tricks with cars we know from the movies Fast and Furious or Baby Driver. From our point of view, the most interesting thing is that we look at places we know well. The Polish countryside, Wrocław, East Berlin and especially Prague await players. It should therefore be a political and social statement at the same time. The developers wanted to show a reality influenced by the Soviet era from their point of view, they say. However, they deliberately connected the totalitarian environment with action gameplay and distinctive characters. The team was inspired by the atmosphere of Eastern Europe, a mixture of pre-war architecture and Soviet modernism, which, according to them, creates a unique dystopian environment in cities.
But the Cold War here gets an admixture of futurism and machines in the alternative history that you wouldn’t have come across in the eighties. For example, I don’t remember those robo-mosquitoes from my childhood… The environment of the game should be colorful, pushed to the extreme, but still authentic. The city should alternate with the countryside. Gameplay will consist of chases, sneaking and the aforementioned fights. The bike event is said to be full of stunts. Each of the two characters – a young punk and an experienced agent – has a slightly different approach to driving and solving problems.
The game certainly doesn’t lack flair, it has a rather unique style and could add an interesting ride for fans like Driver or Stuntman. Petrol Blood is heading to PC, PS4 and Xbox One. The title already has a profile on Steam and you can follow the authors at official website or on Twitter. He also writes developer diary, in which they already specially devoted themselves to, for example, the creation of the city or the design of the Vipera 600GT car, which inspired, among other things, famous Bond movies. An interesting novelty should be released in the middle of next year. Swimming Scorpions already have a Startide game under their belt.
The totalitarian theme and the subject of surveillance and persecution can be somewhat reminiscent of the forthcoming Czech play Beware, which Ondřej Švadlena is working on. Another Czech game promises to take us behind the iron curtain – the open world event Velvetist: The City of Machine Guns from the SiCzech Arts team. We also traveled through Eastern Europe in the Jalopy game.
