Prague 5 will provide the capital city with what it needs for the Smíchov terminal
Prague 5 will provide the capital with land for the purpose of realizing the “Smíchov Terminal”, on which a construction site will be established throughout 2024. Its spokeswoman Lenka Abessi informed about the decision of the municipal district.
The transport terminal received a positive opinion in the environmental impact assessment (EIA) of this February. The terminal is to be created in order to improve the transfer between the metro, trams, trains and suburban connections. It will also have a P+R parking lot for about 1,000 cars. The construction itself will cost several billion crowns and could be completed in 2026.
The management of the Smíchov Town Hall welcomed the capital city’s intention to implement the project under the name “Terminál Smíchov”. The new form of Smíchovský nádraží should unify transport hubs and make transfers faster and overall easier between different modes of transport, which will better connect rail transport with buses, public transport, the metro and the P+R parking lot.
The priority of the previously approved document Strategy for the Development of the Prague 5 District 2030+ is to ensure smooth, safe and comfortable transport in the territory of Prague 5 and to enable choices for each type of transport with the selection of a suitable combination for traveling by city transport.
“To do this, it is necessary to build the basic backbone of the superior communication network, which is the Radlická radial, the Municipal ring road, the Dvorecký bridge and, in the future, the Břevnovská radial,” said councilor for territorial development Zdeněk Doležal (ODS).
There will be a significant change in bus transport, especially for suburban and long-distance buses, which now end at Na Knížecí and in front of Smíchov station. The project envisages moving buses to a new terminal above the railway station platform.
The area in front of the station will be transformed thanks to the new arrangement of tram and bus stops and will allow passengers to move to the station terminal more easily. The tram line will be straightened and moved away from residential buildings, which will significantly reduce noise, which will also contribute to the calming of through traffic. The entire area will be cozied up and counted with the planting of new trees.
“The land of the municipal district will be used primarily for the placement of construction material so that the long-awaited revitalization of Smíchovské nádraží can begin. The construction site will be secured and fenced. The construction contractor, the company SUDOP Praha, will ensure safety so that no one is injured or property is damaged,” said the deputy mayor responsible for property, Martin Damašek (TOP 09).
According to him, the protection of trees, stands and areas for vegetation will also be ensured during the construction works. In the event that there is a risk of collision with trees growing here, the excavation work will be carried out manually.
After the end of the lease, the excavations in the vegetation should be leveled, supplemented with high-quality substrate and sown with grass seed. Furthermore, all construction waste should disappear and the land returned to the municipality in an intact state.
