45,000 people pass through Prague Airport every day. Still less than before covid
During the first half of the year, the number of people who passed through the Ruzyne airport increased more than fivefold compared to last year with the covid restrictions. Václav Havel Airport Prague handled almost 4.3 million passengers in the first six months; almost as much as last year for the whole year. But it is still not even remotely close to the situation before the arrival of the coronavirus: in this comparison, it is still a 45 percent drop.

The number of flights in the first half of this year rose to 44,833. Currently, Prague Airport offers flights to one and a half hundred destinations. Including news; these include the restoration of connections to New York in the USA or Riyadh in Saudi Arabia. Before covid, the number of destinations to which flights from Prague went was four dozen more.
However the number of people who have passed through airport control, originally from the beginning (however, the threshold of one million people per month has already been crossed), it is clear that the record year of 2019 will be far behind the year 222. At that time, the airport handled 17.8 million passengers; this year, according to estimates, it could be below 11 million. Great Britain, Italy and Spain became the most popular travel destinations this year in the period from January to June. Specific destinations that were most requested? These were flights to London, Paris and Amsterdam.

Prague Airport also announces extension of services, which will make traveling more pleasant for passengers. For the 45,000 people who pass through it every day, the partner company now provides luggage packing at the stations in both terminals – but also more options for checking in suitcases via the self-check-in kiosks that airlines offer for flights within the Schengen area, reminded airport spokesperson Klára Divíšková. She also drew attention to the new Vietnamese restaurant in the public part of the connecting building of Terminal 2 and the also newly opened Aperol stand in Finger C at gates C10, C11. She also drew attention to the extension of operating hours at other restaurants, with a solution that can also satisfy passengers with delayed flights. The number of beverage vending machines should be expanded – while it is still true that the airport demands a fixed price from the operator for one type of bottled water in the amount of 25 crowns per package.

Self-service baggage check-in is now offered not only by Air France, ČSA, KLM and Smartwings, but also by Lufthansa Group companies: Austrian, Lufthansa and SWISS. “It is a must to have a boarding pass from online check-in or a self-service kiosk. After reading the boarding pass, the passenger prints the label, places it on the luggage, which he puts on his belt,” explains Divíšková.
The executive director of airport operations, Martin Kučera, specified that this service is intended for the check-in of standard luggage that meets the limits of the given carrier. “We would like to offer it at Terminal 1 as well, unfortunately the interest in it is significantly lower among carriers operating from this terminal than among carriers flying from Terminal 2,” noted Kučera. “However, we are not giving up on this idea,” he believes in change.
