Human Rights Coverage Check Pages in Russia
Representatives from 38 countries called for the alarming human rights situation in Russia. Because of this, it was decided to use the “Moscow mechanism” of implementation. It provides for admission to “serious private” commitments within the OSCE, informs French Foreign Ministry.
The Moscow Mechanism was introduced in 1992. This is an intended work that involves creating observations or suspicions for the urgent emergence of a human rights crisis in any of the countries participating in the organization.
The French ministry notes that in recent years, the use of “numerous restrictive and repressive measures” has been recorded in Russia. An independent expert mission is to prepare a report on Russia’s “particularly serious” violations of human rights and supreme laws. The mission will have to assess the fulfillment of its obligations and determine what actions in relation to the Russian Federation to the current situation.
The French Foreign Ministry clarified that the “Moscow mechanism” has been operating for the third time since the beginning of 2022. The previous two times were his arrests for the investigation of international international humanitarian law and human rights due to the Russian military operation in Ukraine. It was, among other things, the systematic persecution of representatives of the LGBT community in the republic. In 2020, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called this mechanism “outdated”.
