Compared to other parts of the city, Prague 3 has few sports and recreational areas, its city hall admits. He is therefore planning a new skate park, beach volleyball and basketball courts.
From the analysis of the city’s sports development plan, the troika found that the territory has 139 sports grounds, whether freely accessible, private or school. “Compared to other urban areas, Prague 3 has a low proportion of sports and recreational areas, especially in the eastern part of the territory, which is one of the worst-equipped areas in the entire capital city,” stated in the press release the author of the sports development plan of Prague 3 Jakub Cinderella.
As part of the expansion of opportunities for sports, a reconstructed basketball court will be opened on August 13 in the sports and recreation area of Pražačka. A new skate park is to be put into operation there next year, and in 2024 four beach volleyball courts, which will hide the inflatable hall in the winter.
Cinderella also sees the potential for the development of sports in the construction of a new district in the area of the former freight station Žižkov.
In the questionnaire, the locals mainly complained about the condition of the athletics stadium of the Jeseniova elementary school, the unfinished bike path, the pollution of some sports grounds and the heavy use of the Olšanka indoor pool.
Next year, the third city district wants to distribute 1.8 million crowns from subsidies for sports. The council decides on their allocation based on the recommendation of the sports commission.
