A fire broke out in the area of the scrap metal on Tuesday afternoon on the outskirts of Kralupe nad Vltavou, north of Prague. Firefighters declared the highest level of alarm. One of the firefighters injured his leg during the attack.
Plastic waste is burning in the area, and although the smoke subsided after 7 p.m., it still remained unpleasant. According to the firemen, the smoke goes beyond Kralupy, and only residents of one nearby village were advised not to ventilate.
Firefighters have been fighting the fire since about 5 p.m. in the afternoon. They declared a third level fire alarm and 26 units arrived on the scene, which should be a little over 100 firefighters. In Kralupy there are also one professional and three voluntary units from Prague. “We help our colleagues from the Fire and Rescue Service of the Central Bohemian Region with the liquidation of a large-scale fire in Kralupy nad Vltavou. Other units from Prague are ready to take turns in the evening hours,” the Prague fire brigade said shortly after 8 p.m.

The rescue service was also on the scene. One of the responding firefighters injured his leg and ended up in hospital. Otherwise, it looks like no one was hurt. If the fire does not spread outside the landfill, the fire should be harmless. According to residents of Kralup, there has been at least a second fire in the area in a month.
The smoke rose high into the clouds and was seen from a great distance:
