Guitarist Jack White is coming to Prague. He got married at the first concert of the tour
After eight years, the American guitarist and singer Jack White returns to the Czech Republic this Tuesday, July 5. In Prague’s Forum Karlín will present songs from the recently released album Fear of the Dawn as well as the recording Entering Heaven Alive, which he will only release in July.
Standing tickets for 1,290 crowns are still available in the Ticketmaster network, the concert is organized by the Live Nation agency. “At the request of the artist, the use of mobile phones will be prohibited in the hall, which will be stored in a Yondr case. The phone will be able to be used in designated areas outside the main hall,” says Ondřej Pojzl on behalf of the organizer.
In the main hall, the case will be unlocked only after the performance, otherwise the phone can be removed in the entrance hall or vestibule. “I think you’ll enjoy watching it without the gadgets for a while and experiencing the music and our shared love for it in person,” the band says.
White has been using Yondr cases since 2018, with comedian Dave Chappelle among their pioneers. The goal is, firstly, to prevent fans from recording low-quality recordings of the concert on the Internet, and secondly, to get them to concentrate on the music.
The musician first spoke about the problem eight years ago. “People stop clapping at concerts because they’re texting with one hand and have a drink in the other,” he complained then Rolling Stone magazine. Authorized audio recordings from the current tour are published by White on the website Nugs.netpictures for sharing on the social network will be uploaded by his photographer.
Czech rockers Doctor Victor, who have been around since 2012, will perform as an opening act at Foru Karlín. White has a different frontman at each performance of the current tour, in other European cities it was or will be English rockers Chubby & The Gang, the Larkin Poe sisters or guitarist Mdou Moctar from Niger, Africa.
The 66-year-old White, a founding member of the bands The White Stripes, The Raconteurs and The Dead Weather, a twelve-time winner of the Grammy Award and manager of four Third Man Records labels, will be on an American tour in Detroit in April. They proposed to their girlfriend and singer Olivia Jean there beforehand.
When she said yes, she returned to the stage with her mother, her father and a friend from Third Man Records, a self-proclaimed priest of the Internet Church. The couple married in front of the public, with their bass players as wedding witnesses. described Pitchfork.com magazine.
“Maybe if something went wrong that day, I’ll leave it for another day, but everything was as it should be, so I thought: why not today,” White later described on Stephen Colbert’s television talk show. “She was quite surprised,” he added about his wife. On Instagram later suggested still a proper wedding with a real priest and in a big cathedral, apparently on the 4th of August.

Last month, Jack White surprised a visitor at England’s Glastonbury festival. He played an unannounced concert there. He included 15 songs including hits Seven Nations Army from the repertoire of The White Stripes or Stable as it gets by The Raconteurs. “Jack White has remained an ardent weirdo who can make his guitar, voice and keyboards sound identical at one moment and is used in noise and instrument frenzies, but he goes against the audience,” Honza Vedral wrote on Aktuálně.cz, according to him, the criticism ” on and below the stage there was pure, yet beautiful madness”.
In late June, Jack White was a guest on the podcast Conan O’Brien needs a friendwhere, among other things, he adds to his composition Another way to die from 2008, shot with singer Alicia Keys for the Bond film Quantum of Solace.
“Few things I’ve done have divided audiences like this,” he admitted. “So far, people either love the song or can’t stand it. I’m somewhere in the middle,” he stated.
He also explained that the producers approached him as the second person, after singer Amy Winehouse. “But she didn’t come on time for the shoot or didn’t perform as well as they wanted. The producers got under pressure, so they contacted me,” he added. Winehouse, who died three years later at the age of twenty-seven from alcohol poisoning associated with bulimia, at the time she told Novy časopis magazine, that the producers rejected her song. “They wanted something cleaner, more boring,” she commented.
In the podcast, Jack White identified Thunderball, whose 1965 film of the same name, as his favorite Bond song he sang Tom Jones.
Over the past month, Jack White has also joined American musicians condemning the decision of the US Supreme Court, which at the end of June overturned its own verdict from the Roe v. Wade case of 1973. This invalidated the federal insurance guaranteeing women that they could terminate a pregnancy. “Three judges who are completely oblivious to what the majority of society wants have just taken our country back to the 1970s.” he remarked White on Instagram.
In the post, he criticized former US Republican President Donald Trump. It was he who appointed his candidates for the three vacant seats on the nine-member court, thus returning the balance of power in favor of the conservatives. “Trump, you just managed to set the country back 50 years. I hope your father is smiling down on you from heaven and has you as he reads with his other hand a list of all the disruptions you have quietly paid for with your life,” White tweeted former president.
