In this podcast episode:
It is the story of a short-term reunion of three estranged brothers. And it’s the story of three amateur bike thieves. It begins shortly before the first corona lockdown. In 2019, the last of the three brothers moved to Zurich from Calabria in southern Italy. Disputes are settled after years of stalemate and new dynamics develop in the family, as Zurich editor Michael von Ledebur explains: the three construction workers start stealing expensive bicycles on the streets of Zurich. Above all, they have their sights set on expensive e-bikes, which are experiencing a boom during Corona. The plan is to take her to her uncle in Calabria and sell her from there. But things don’t go the way the three brothers imagined.
A bicycle is stolen in Zurich every three hours. But where the bikes go and who stole them, nobody can find out for the most part. Because the detection rate is negligible. In the new episode of “NZZ Akzent”, Michael von Ledebur gives a rare insight into where bikes can disappear to once they have been stolen, with the story of the three brothers from Calabria.
