The mass shooting in Copenhagen, Copenhagen | Danish politicians rage against Republicans after shooting: – What’s wrong with you?
Republicans cite the tragic shooting incident in Copenhagen as an example of how strict gun laws do not prevent mass murder with firearms.
Republican Lavren Spicer, who ran for the House of Representatives, wrote the following on Twitter, just hours after the mass shooting in Denmark:
«Shooting in Copenhagen in Denmark, where firearms are banned? “Hey, I’m looking forward to seeing how the left will explain how this could happen,” she wrote in a Twitter message on Monday night.
Half an hour later, she also chooses to come up with a kind of declaration of sympathy.
“My thoughts and prayers go out to the victims. I really hate violence perpetrated with firearms, and I hate the evil people who want to disarm all people so that they can remain insecure, “she wrote on Twitter.

The Twitter message triggered massive debate and criticism in the comments section, which led to Spicer posting another message:
“I notice many Americans who point out how much better it is in Denmark than here. What are you stopping? ” she writes with an attached screenshot of a flight booking from New York to Copenhagen.
– Extremely insensitive. It’s a scandal
The Danish politician Uffe Elbæk (Frie Grønne), who is a member of the Danish Parliament, is one of many Danes who react to the Twitter message from the American Republican.
Seriously: What’s wrong with the GOP (Republican Party)? As a member of the Danish parliament, it is shocking to read Twitter messages like this, and the one from their colleague @lavern_spicer. Where is their empathy? Where is their respect for family and relatives? Where is their decency? ” writes Elbæk on Twitter.
– I think it is extremely insensitive and extremely inappropriate. That says a lot about how political life is in the US now, says Elbæk to Nettavisen.
– It is completely shocking and incomprehensible that you as a politician can take advantage of what happened in Copenhagen in a political situation in the United States. It is a scandal, says Elbæk.

Three people were shot and killed at the Field’s shopping center in Copenhagen on Sunday evening. Another four people were critically injured. A total of 30 people were injured in the shooting.
– Firearms laws do not stop mass shootings
Lauren Boebert is another Republican who pulls the mass shooting in Copenhagen in the American arms debate. She is a member of the House of Representatives in the U.S. Congress, and is running for re-election in this fall’s midterm elections.
“It was precisely a mass shooting in Denmark, a country with some of the strongest gun laws in Europe. It is time to realize that gun laws do NOT stop mass shootings, “she wrote.

Irene Armendariz-Jackson a third Republican who brings the shooting home to the US arms debate. She is running for the House of Representatives.
“A shooting incident at a shopping center in Copenhagen, where firearms are practically impossible to own for the general public, rejects every single argument the left has about firearms,” she writes.
– Shame on you
Many Danes have counterattacked against Republican Lavren Spicer.
“This is a distasteful Twitter message. This was a mentally ill man who did not have a gun license. And if he had lived in their land, he would have had far more firearms and far more would have been killed. And you know what – the police were in place within minutes. Not an hour and a half as with their previous school shooting, “writes a Danish Twitter user.
“The shooter used a legal hunting rifle, which charges one cartridge at a time. Three people were killed. Can you explain to me how many people would have been killed if he had had an automatic rifle that anyone in the United States could buy? ” wrote another Danish Twitter user.
“Please stop using our tragedy to advance your political cause. Shame on you, “writes the Danish politician and actor Klaus Bondam on Twitter.
“Are you running for the US Congress?” I feel sorry for the United States if people like you come in using a tragedy like this to advance a political agenda. Thanks to our strong gun laws and healthy police, we only had a few dead and a healthy arrest of a mentally ill person, “writes parliamentary candidate Jacob Brandt-Møller (The Democratic Party) on Twitter.
Several users on Twitter refer to statistics, which show that the number of killings carried out with firearms per 100,000 inhabitants in the United States is far higher than in any other western country.
