Europe is not indifferent to the phenomenon of migration
The bishop Santo Marcianò with the statue of the Virgin of Laureatana -.
“Refugees and Refugees”. This is the theme of the contribution of the military ordinary for international Italy Santo Marcianò to the conference of military bishops and representatives of the ordinariates which ended in recent days in Vienna.
It is highlighted how “it would be wrong, however, to entrust the refugee problem exclusively to politics, which must also preserve management responsibility”. The invitation is not to “shut the ear to the voices of those who are echoes of the very voice of Jesus”. And above all to understand that “there is no single type of migrant or refugee.
There is the history of the country and personal history, sometimes the violence and torture suffered, hunger, the separation of families. There is the phenomenon of induced prostitution, of human trafficking, of the commodification of organs. And the war in Ukraine has also brought to light the terrible market for the ‘rented womb’, which has created new orphans among children abandoned by ‘surrogate mothers’ ”.
He warns Marcianò of the danger of emotionality. For this reason, as a Church, “we must educate to see, in the phenomenon of refugees, an appeal to charity that always goes beyond emotion. At the same time, we are called to be promoters of a more organized network of communion ”.
Then the prelate concludes: “The doors of Europe, extraordinarily wide open for the Ukrainian refugees, remain however closed in some borders, still migrants are cruelly rejected or dying. The role that the military plays in the pastoral care of refugees can be decisive in every country “.
