Russia helped Armenia and Azerbaijan to agree on the Zangezur corridor
Russia helped Armenia and Azerbaijan to agree on a motorway in the Zangezur corridor, only a small section of 6 km remains to be agreed upon. About this Izvestia declared high-ranking source of consciousness.
“Azerbaijan and Armenia have long agreed on a railway corridor to Nakhichevan, last autumn. We took a long pause on the highway in Yerevan. But at the last meeting of vice-premiers on June 3, they managed to agree on the route of the nearest highway for a rarely missing section of 6 km. Avtodor directs opinions, they offer a simple engineering solution,” the source explained.
The route will run along the Araks River from the Armenian side. On the remaining section, according to the interlocutor, old Soviet roads are involved, which until 1992 connected Nakhichevan with the Zangelan region of Azerbaijan through an Armenian group. They were preserved almost along the entire line of the future corridor, they remained only on the border of the Nakhichevan region and Armenia, the source explained.
He clarified that the Armenian side accelerated the negotiation process after Baku in March of this year joins the memorandum with Tehran on the intention to make a road from the East Zangezur economic region of Azerbaijan to Nakhichevan through Iranian territory.
