Reiten’s goal double gave 2-1 over Denmark – Dagsavisen
Already after 50 seconds, the Norwegian team was behind in Viborg. Signe Bruun put Denmark in the lead, and the hosts were clearly the best in long stretches before the break.
Defensively, Norway showed clear signs of weakness, had many dangerous ball losses and struggled a little in the future. With 40 minutes played, the home side managed to get a 1 – 0 lead as Reiten flipped the ball in after a cross from the right.
Then she shot from distance and saw the ball go in via Karen Holmgaard’s leg. The change of direction put Denmark’s goalkeeper Lene Christensen completely out of action.
In the constructive attack, Amalie Eikeland took advantage of the Danish root, snatched the ball and passed the game on to Ingrid Syrstad Engen. Then the Barcelona pro turned the game over to Reiten.
Cool set
Norway punished the Danes again with a successful break in the 52nd minute. Caroline Graham Hansen won the ball high in the field, accelerated towards the 16-meter and sent a pass to Ada Hegerberg. Lyon’s star striker jumped over the ball, and it made Reiten completely free at the back post.
The Chelsea profile coldly steered into what became a Norwegian winning goal. Reiten stands with 16 goals in 66 international matches.
Strong saves from Guro Pettersen were needed to keep the Danes away in the final phase. Thus, Norway took its third straight 2-1 victory over the neighboring country.
Experiment in defense
National team manager Martin Sjögren tested Anna Jøsendal as left back in Wednesday’s settlement, while Julie Blakstad was moved to right back.
– It’s because our intended right back is injured. Synne Skinnes Hansen we tried there last, but now we want to try Anna because she has been good and made the debut where she was very nervous, Sjögren told NRK before the match.
The European Championship play-off starts on 6 July. Norway’s opening match is played the next day against Northern Ireland at St. Mary’s in Southampton. Then host nations England (11/7) and Austria (15/7) await in Brighton.
