Drama in the south of the metropolis of Lyon. A 12-year-old child died drowned in the Rhône near the town of Chasse-sur-Rhône (Isère) on Saturday June 25, 2022. The family from Givors, in the metropolis of Greater Lyon, is in mourning.
Two children who bathed in the Rhône found themselves with difficulty, around 5:25 p.m., according to our colleagues from France Blue. It was a 12-year-old boy and his 6-year-old sister. The latter was taken out of the water in time but her older brother drowned.
The children wanted to dip their feet but went a little too far and were swept away, according to the radio.
A place where swimming is prohibited
The place located between Givors and Chasse-sur-Rhône is prohibited for swimming according to the mayor quoted by France Blue.
“Despite the prohibition signs, it is common for families or young people to meet there. The Rhône forms a bend and with the bridge, it causes whirlpools with a fairly violent current, ”laments the mayor of Chasse-sur-Rhône.
