Pierre Oliver does not rule out being the right-wing candidate in the 2026 municipal elections
The mayor of the 2nd arrondissement believes that he is one of the figures likely to embody the right and the center in 2026.
When asked about his ambitions for 2026, Pierre Oliver remains cautious for the moment. However, the current councilor of the 2nd arrondissement of Lyon does not particularly seek to hide it: he does not exclude participating in the next race for the central town hall.
“I don’t know if I will be the head of the LR list”, tried to temper the elected Les Républicains (LR) this Thursday evening on the set of Lyon Politiques. Before adding: “If we are clear today, what are the personalities who can have a role in this future team of the right and the center? We are two opposition mayors: there is Pascal Blache and I- same “.
Claiming to be “very complementary” with his counterpart in the 6th arrondissement, Pierre Oliver praises the local roots that characterize them according to him. “We have this love for Lyon. And today, we feel it less on the other side (that of Grégory Doucet, editor’s note). And that, inevitably, will be a point on which we will be able to find ourselves with d ‘other people a little wider than our political family, because you never win alone.
Exchanges with Yann Cucherat and David Kimelfeld
With whom could Pierre Oliver consider making common cause? He quotes the centrist Yann Cucherat, standard bearer of La République en Marche in Lyon in 2020, with whom he collaborates regularly, as well as Anne-Sophie Condemine, councilor for the 2nd arrondissement.
“In the same way that we exchange with members of the group of David Kimelfeld, whether in the city and in the metropolis”, adds the elected LR.
In addition to his half-confessed ambition for the central town hall, Pierre Oliver shared with the latter a bitter observation on the action carried out by Grégory Doucet at the head of the municipality since his election. Taxation, public finance, security, mobility… it is only on the question of culture that the mayor of the 2nd arrondissement does not scratch the current city councilor of Lyon.
Towards a duel against Grégory Doucet in 2026?
Pierre Oliver sums up his objective for 2026 as follows: “The only choice we are watching is to find the most beautiful union possible with partners to succeed in turning the page on this ecological experience”.
If he were to take the lead on the right and center list for the next election, Pierre Oliver would find Grégory Doucet on the starting line. The ecologist has already announced his intention to run again at the end of his mandate.
