Prague banned drinking alcohol at the metro station and at night on Náplavka
The places have been defined by the city district and are to be approved by the city council. In Prague 1, for example, the measure now covers hundreds of streets, squares and parks, such as Na Kampě, Dlouhá, Václavské náměstí, Slovanský and Střelecký ostrov. In Prague 3, it is not allowed to drink, for example, in front of the Viktoria Žižkov stadium.

Decree almost all city parks except Stromovka and Letenské sady, for example in Prague 6 14 places with public greenery are listed. The ban also applies in front of most shopping centers and some conveniences. The most restrictive is Prague 8 with a total of 208 seats.
“They have identified so many places that it’s confusing and drinking alcohol is banned virtually everywhere. Anyone with a cap or stopper can avoid the ban. In addition, the noise on the streets is usually made by people who have already had a drink in a pub and are just moving to another place, “says Hřib.
The representative of Prague 2, Magdalena Valdmanová (Pirates), also opposed the ban. “The focus is only on people with whom there are no problems, they don’t bother anyone and there is no reason to persecute them for an open bottle,” says Valdman.
On the other hand, the mayor of Prague 2, Alexandra Udženija (ODS), welcomes the restrictions. “It’s not that politicians came up with something to ban something, but it’s because of the people who live near Náplavka. There is a lot of noise after twelve and they would like to sleep and have peace. I appeal to everyone to be considerate of each other, “says Udženija.
Islands and public transport stops
Because people drink mostly liquor stores outside at night, one of the possible solutions was to ban the sale of alcohol at convenience stores. However, Udženija called this unrealistic.

The decree updates the rules from 2013. They must also not drink in children’s playgrounds and sandpits and within a hundred meters of them, as well as in schools and medical facilities. The ban also applies within a hundred meters from the subways and metro stations. The regulation also applies to boarding islands and shelters for public transport.
“Consumption of alcoholic beverages in a public place also means staying in a public place with an open bottle or other container with an alcoholic beverage,” the decree states.
There are few exceptions. People can rejoice, for example, in restaurant gardens, snack stalls, markets or public festivities.
