The ceremony for the awarding of the academic recognition of Professor Emeritus and Honorary was held today (May 23) at the rectorate of the University of Siena.

The awards were given to professors and professors: Ferdinando Abbrifull professor of History of Philosophy; Maurizio Cottofull professor of political science; Antonio Federicofull professor of Neurology; Giovanni ManettiOrdinary Philosophy and Theory of Languages ​​(honorary); Ranuccio Nutifull professor of Internal Medicine; Ugo Paganofull professor of Economic Policy; Gabriella Piccinnifull professor of Medieval History; Riccardo Pisillo Mazzeschiordinary of international law; Luigi Rizzifull professor of linguistics; Lucia Sartifull professor of Prehistoric Archeology (honorary); Roberto Venutifull professor of German literature (honorary).

The Professors and Professors were presented by the directors of the respective departments of the University of Siena, who illustrated their academic career and studies of excellence that led to the awarding of the prestigious academic awards.

“There is great satisfaction in the University for today’s event – said the Rector Francesco Frati – which, after two years of pandemic, resumes the tradition of celebrating the professors who have been awarded the title of Professor Emeritus and Professor Emerita and of Honorary Professor and Honorary Professor. All the colleagues to whom the Ministry of University and Research authorized the award of the University title have contributed to the management of the University in its various actions, but above all they have contributed to the scientific prestige of the University through the quality of their own scientific and research activities of Siena ».

The titles of Emeritus and Honorary Professor can be conferred to Ordinary Professors placed in retirement, who have a seniority of service in the role: greater than 20 years for the Emeritus and at least 15 years for the Honoraries and who have had management positions in the University during an academic career or having carried out teaching and scientific activities of excellence.

The proposal for the attribution of academic recognition is the prerogative of the Academic Senate upon proposal of the relevant department or the Rector and the title is conferred by decree of the Ministry of University and Research.
