Debrecen – The bust of the actors is located close to the entrance of the Csokonai Forum.
As we wrote about it beforeThe Zokonai Theater commemorates the actors Zoltán Latinovits and Árpád Kóti with the gesture of naming a hall in the Csokonai Forum. Mayor László Papp submitted a proposal to the General Assembly that, in addition to the names of the halls, busts should also be made of the acting giants.
Bust of Zoltán Latinovits and Árpád Kóti
As can be read in the presentation, Zoltán Latinovits, one of the greatest figures in Hungarian theater, is a posthumous actor, a worthy actor, and a Mari Jászai, an assistant actor who was contracted to the Csokonai Theater in 1956 after obtaining his university degree. The existence of a theater in Debrecen for two years was followed by a theater detour in Miskolc for a few years, then he returned to the Csokonai Theater again between 1961 and 1962. Already during his play in Debrecen, he excelled in his modern, intellectual interpretation of roles and the meticulous representation of emotions.
Árpád Kóti, an actor of the nation, a Kossuth and Jászai Prize winner, a worthy and excellent artist, an inherited member of the Csokonai Theater, an Honorary Citizen of the City, was a member of the Csokonai Theater from his death in 1963. During his long career in Debrecen, he has had more than three hundred performances and worked with more than sixty directors.
The portrait of the actors was “patterned in clay by sculptor Richard Juha with the idea that the final bronze version of the sculptures would be placed in the surroundings of the new, grandiose theater. The location of the public works would be in the green area in front of the wall section between the entrance of the Csokonai Forum and the Forum Shopping Center, close to the entrance of the theater ”
– read in the submission.
The 65x58x35-centimeter busts would feature the names of the actors on a 140-centimeter pedestal and the name of the creator on the back of the pedestal. On the sides of the pedestals, the sculptor would engrave the autograph signature of the actors.
The cost of making and placing the sculptures is HUF 54 million gross per sculpture, a total of HUF 10,000 for 10 million local governments, for which funds are available. The area in Csapó Street, number 8458, used for the placement of the sculptures, is the property of the municipality of Debrecen.
The proposal will be discussed at the meeting of the General Assembly in Debrecen on May 26.
