“They surveyed the hotel situation and looked at the MVM Dome, which was intended to be a venue in Budapest, called it an excellent arena, and were very satisfied with it, also in terms of capacity, service, transport and VIP rooms. There are similar arenas in Europe, but it is currently the largest and most modern. It turns out that mobile facilities will be needed, but this was also the case at other events. ” Said Levente Sipos.
The delegation met with György Such, President of the Hungarian Association, in the Parliament. It is possible that the IIHF will hold one of the sessions of next year’s Congress in Parliament. The delegation then went on to Slovenia to assess the location.
“We hope that they will leave Slovenia with similar positive experiences. IIHF staff will check to see if the applicant is suitable to host the event, but the decision will be made by Congress. ” The Secretary-General added.
The Hungarian and Slovenian federations announced on May 8, the last day of the World Cup in the Ljubljana Division 1 / A, that they would run together for the 2023 event. The MVM Dome in Budapest and the Stozice Arena in Ljubljana would be at the two locations, with a total of 28,000 seats.
Next year’s tournament would have hosted St. Petersburg, but because of the war in Ukraine, the IIHF took away the right to host from Russia. The Hungarian-Slovenian competition for the elite World Cup was applied for jointly by Finland and Latvia, ie the current and last year’s host. The IIHF Congress will decide next year’s meeting in Finland on 27 May.
