If the offer is right, coach Breitenreiter will leave
Will master trainer André Breitenreiter stay with the FCZ? For Nau-Fussball chief reporter Mischi Wettstein, the departure of the German would not be surprising.
the essentials in brief
- André Breitenreiter won the championship title in his first season as FCZ coach.
- Five Bundesliga clubs are currently looking for a new coach.
- Nau soccer chief reporter Mischi Wettstein is considering leaving.
Does he stay or doesn’t he stay? André Breitenreiter is the master builder for FC Zurich’s Swiss championship title. The coach wins the pot in his first season as a trainer.
Would you understand André Breitenreiter if he left FCZ for the Bundesliga?
Success arouses interest. “Several Bundesliga clubs are looking for a new coach. Wolfsburg, Gladbach, Hertha and Augsburg,” says Nau-Fussball chief reporter Mischi Wettstein in the video commentary (above).
Bundesliga as a goal?
Wolfsburg and Gladbach are particularly interesting. “A man who has previously coached Schalke should be an issue for both clubs,” said Wettstein.
Another post in Germany has been free since Tuesday afternoon. Hoffenheim has parted ways with coach Sebastian Hoeneß. As Nau knows, Breitenreiter is a top candidate for the Bundesliga club.
One thing is clear: TSG, like Gladbach and Wolfsburg, is a top address to which André Breitenreiter will hardly say no.
With the right offer, Breitenreiter is gone
What Breitenreiter has done at FCZ is terrific and cannot be repeated. “It was a one-time thing. It’s always easier to get up the mountain. Staying there is something completely different.”
The German is not a “coat of arms kisser”, confirms Wettstein. And so an exit is obvious. “I wouldn’t bet a penny that Breitenreiter doesn’t go if the offer is right.”
The Zurich fans should not blame him for a change. He brought the championship title here. “If it’s his reward now that he can go back to his Bundesliga, then you have to understand that.”
Coach André Breitenreiter’s contract with the Stadtclub runs until the summer of 2023.
