Outside the palace
Nice ep number four from Geir Zahl.
Geir Zahl: “Water” (lethal)
Ex-Kaizer Geir Zahl has found peace, happiness and inspiration in Copenhagen, and there have been four really nice mini records he has called up after the four elements.
«Air» has a bit of Kaiserian sound, a bit of fun and a bit of a horror cabinet disguised as pop in dialect. “Fire” offers rock of the type that is a bit squeaky and quarrelsome, but which settles after a few rounds. The songs on «Earth» are more down, calmer and more earthy (mhm).
The last one, «Water», contains bib indie pop, a bit of brit pop and something that really has something Beck and Bowie about it. Especially the gorgeous, light and nostalgic «It was a time» is a little gem. Also hear the last snaisne song, the story «Happy (with pain in hand)». Nice songs, good guest vocals from Marte Aarseth, varied and elaborately produced.
Geir Zahl’s solo is less flashy and less immediate than some other former bandmates, but he is good. So it is living outside the imperial house.
Best track: “It was a time.”
