Russia can create a network of the largest geophysical stations on the moon
The Central Research Institute of Mechanical Engineering (TsNIIMash), which is part of the state corporation Roscosmos, proposes to create a global geophysical network of automatic scientific institutions on the Moon.
Such installations provide accurate determination of the location of moonquakes and measurement of heat, based on the bowels of the natural satellite of our planet. Stations are planned to link to the polar poles, equator and near latitude on the visible and far sides of the moon.
We are talking about small installations of mass 15–20 kg. The project considers five or six autonomous selenophysical nanostations. Their delivery to the Moon can be carried out using the Korvette reusable unmanned takeoff and landing spacecraft proposed for participation in the S.A. Lavochkin Scientific and Production Association.
“The nanostation is a small-sized cylindrical container made of a composite material with a low-power radioisotope thermoelectric generator and supports for installation on the ground. It is expected that the scientific instrumentation will include a highly sensitive seismometer with magnification of a gravimeter, a magnetometer, a heat flow sensor, a radio beacon and a corner reflector.“, – the publication says.
Installations for the development of an increase in the level of integrated monitoring of the Moon, including seismic studies to determine the dynamics of the internal heat flow, gravitational and magnetic fields of the natural satellite of the Earth.
