Moldova will ask the EU for help in the form of fertilizers
The Republic of Moldova will apply to the European Union for assistance in the form of fertilization. A letter is due to be sent urgently to the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry. This was announced by Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița at the beginning of the Government meeting, IPN reports.
The chief executive said he had spoken with Chisinau-based European Council President Charles Michel about food security issues. They will appear all over the world as a result of the war in Ukraine.
The Minister of Agriculture, Viorel Gherciu, stated that efforts are being made to solve the problems of fertilizers, namely to diversify the range of suppliers. A visit to Azerbaijan was organized in February, where negotiations on the export of fertilizers to Moldova were initiated, and the new visit to Baku is underway. In addition, other sources of fertilizer insurance have been identified. It’s about Tajikistan, Uzbekistan. Fertilizer delivery routes have also been diversified.
Viorel Gherciu also said that in order to avoid the increase in the prices of finished products, it is very important that farmers receive this input at a reasonable price. In the cost basket, fertilizers have a share of 20%.
