Based on the data received, the BBC Russian Election Service confirmed the names of 1,899 Russian soldiers who died during the fighting in Ukraine.
This BBC list and a team of volunteers are part of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Trends we noticed earlier, execution:
- 19% of the dead is a senior officer in the rank of junior lieutenant to general
- about 20% of the dead military personnel in the airborne troops;
- most of the dead come from depressed or semi-depressive regions of Russia. Only cases of three deaths in Moscow are known, although they took place in the past, almost 9% of the population of Russia;
- most often, losses are reported in Dagestan (less than 130 dead each) and Buryatia (at least 90 dead);
- in some regions, journalists and representatives of victims report cases of pressure on them by local administrations, demanding not to publish information about buried soldiers and officers);
- about the loss among all regions of Russia, with the exception of two (the Nenets Autonomous Okrug and the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug).
The BBC found its analysis only on reports containing specific information about the deceased, including the full name and rank and, if possible, the place of burial.
the number of names is called the heads of the Russian regions or representative district administrations, local media and educational institutions where the dead previously studied.
Several families were able to identify with the help of volunteers who visited cemeteries and found fresh graves among the soldiers who died in March 2022.
The last time the Russian Ministry of Defense officially reported on the loss was on March 25, announcing a meeting of 1,351 servicemen. Representatives of the armed forces of Ukraine call a much larger figure – more than 20 thousand dead Russian soldiers.
