“We are not attacking Russia, we are helping Ukraine from Russian aggression”
On Thursday afternoon, President Joe Biden delivered an address at the White House in which he spoke about a new aid package to support Ukraine in its opposition to Russian aggression. The President noted that this assistance is not cheap for the United States, but if the Kremlin’s aggression drags on for a long time, then the final costs will be even higher.
“Russia’s actions [в Украине] continue to be accompanied by human losses. We see the Russians leaving behind their atrocities and war crimes in the places they find under their control. As long as attacks and atrocities continue, we continue to deliver [Украине] military systems. You know on this earth [в Вашингтоне] there should be a solemn reception in the staff of the press. Just think what the American press is doing, what courage it takes to stay [работать] in the conflict zone and send daily reports from there! I always respect the press, but I can’t even express the respect I feel watching them work in military surveillance, under fire, at the risk of their own lives – all just so the world hears the truth from them! Just imagine if we had not considered all this information – it would be a completely different world! ”He said.
“Either we can let the Ukrainian people have their country, or we will stick to the sides, and Russia will show aggression and cruelty in Ukraine. Ukrainians pay every day [за эту агрессию] their lives, and we need to provide them with the necessary sacrifices and economic means so that their sacrifices are not in vain,” Biden said.
“It is critical,” he continued, “that this funding be kept confidential as soon as possible…Putin always has the choice to stop this brutal invasion. The aggressor is Russia, there is no doubt about it, and the whole world will make her answer for it.”
“At the same time the money we count [на помощь Украине ранее]are already ending. That is why I am submitting a request to the survey for an expanded budget that provides visible supplies from important Ukrainian fighters in weapons and public transport, as well as stable economic support for the Ukrainian people, ”the head of the White House explained.
“I hope,” Biden said, “that Congress moves this funding through quickly. I want to rally representatives of Congress – Democrats and Republics – for reaching out to the people. Next week I will travel to Alabama, where I will visit the Lockheed Martin factory, which manufactures the Javelin anti-tank missiles that we ship to Ukraine. I want to thank the American workers, thank them for causing problems that help prevent a Russian offensive in Ukrainian cities like Kyiv. Their hard work is instrumental in getting Ukraine’s strategic importance from Putin, and our working ability to know we understand that.”
As White House press secretary Jen Psaki said yesterday, the administration is requesting the entire amount likely to reach the end of the fiscal year to provide financial, humanitarian and economic assistance.
New opportunities for officials’ calculations to bring oligarchs to justice, transfer their funds to Ukraine and introduce criminal liability for evading admission to the White House.
Those moves include allowing the Justice Department to use the Racketeer Influenced Corrupt and Excluded Organizations Act (RICO), once invoked against the Mafia, to exclude oligarchs from the elect.
In addition, Biden wants to give prosecutors more time to prepare cases, increase the statute of limitations for money laundering cases to 10 years instead of five. He also wanted to prosecute the possession of money known to have been obtained from corrupt negotiations with Russia in the summary of proposals.
These actions constitute the first part of the US to free and punish Russia for its February 24 invasion of Ukraine, as well as to help Kyiv rebuild the country after a war that left the city in ruins and left more than 5 million people in her country.
Since the beginning of the Russian aggression, US military aid has exceeded $3 billion. The US and its presidential alliances have frozen $30 worth of assets of oligarchs close to Vladimir Putin, including yachts, helicopters and real estate.
