Budapest – Notes the results of the national referendum on child protection issues at Monday’s meeting of the National Electoral Commission (NEC); the referendum was invalid on all four issues.
The NVB determined the final result of the referendum on the basis of the Hungarian constituency minutes and the protocol counted in the letter, with a separate resolution on the four issues.
According to the Basic Law, a national referendum is valid if all voters have voted more than validly, and it is effective if more than half of the voters who validly voted gave the same answer to the question.
8,215,304 voters were eligible to vote: 7,536,144 were in the constituency of their place of residence, 157,551 were eligible to vote at their place of residence, 65,480 were on the electoral roll and 456,129. The validity threshold was 4,107,652.
The proportion of valid votes was 47 to 48 percent on various issues. Within this, the proportion of non-votes ranged from 92 to 96 percent.
The first question put to the referendum said: “Do you support the holding of sexual orientation sessions for minor children in a public institution without parental support?”. A total of 5,628,138 votes were cast, with 3,910,436 valid votes (47.60 percent of all voters). The number of yes votes was 300,282 (7.6 per cent) and that of gender 3,610,154 (92.32 per cent).
The second question was, “Do you support the promotion of gender reassignment treatments for minor children?”. The number of valid votes on this question was 3,880,381 (this is 47.23 per cent of the total number of voters), the number of yes votes was 158,447 (4.08 per cent) and the number of votes was 3,721,934 (95.92 per cent).
The third question is, “Do you support the unrestricted presentation of sexual media content that affects the development of minors?”. The number of valid votes on this question is 3,872,161 (this is 47.13 percent of the total number of voters). The number of yes votes was 180,785 (4.67 percent) and that of the gender was 3,691,376 (95.33 percent).
The fourth question was, “Do you support the display of gender-sensitive media content to minors?”. The number of valid votes on this question is 3,870,042 (this is 47.11 percent of the total number of voters), the number of yes votes is 186,938 (4.83 percent), and the number of genders is 3,683,104 (95.17 percent).
The decisions of the NVB are not final, an appeal can be requested from the Curia within three days.
