Bulgaria has a champion in the Twelfth National English Spelling Competition
Sofia. The final round of the Twelfth Spelling Bee English Spelling Bee Competition is taking place at the American College in Sofia, announced the organizers of the competition. The best among the best 24 students from all over the country of the Spelling Bee champion of Bulgaria. This is the seventh grader Teodor Hadjiev from the village of Markovo, Plovdiv region. His runner-up is Nadezhda Nikolova from Sliven.
Theo is fascinated by history, curious and inquisitive about the world around him. He is a child with needs, but that doesn’t stop him from going through the difficult circles of spelling English words.
All 24 finalists and their teachers will have fun at the summer camp, where everything happens in English. This is a reward for the efforts of students and teachers during this school year and they had the chance to see each other live at the end of the competition.
More than 3,000 students from 209 schools across the country are taking part in the Twelfth Spelling Bee National Spelling Bee Competition.
In last year’s online Spelling Bee competition, the champion was Daniel Lambin from Gotse Delchev.
Spelling Bee is a traditional American competition in which athletes spell (from English spelling), ie. pronounces word by letter different words in English. The overall competition is to increase students’ interest in learning English and improve their knowledge through fun and interactive activities.
The competition is organized by the Corps for Education and Development-CORPlus Foundation. To secure a partnership with the America for Bulgaria Foundation ”and to support the US Embassy and the Department of Education and Science. The host of the national final is the American College in Sofia.
Every year the organizer offers the schools to participate in additional activities and competitions on important topics such as safety in the Internet, aggression at school, mutual aid and others. This group of participants will join the campaign under the title Search BEEyond the obvious. It will be aimed at developing students’ critical thinking, searching and analyzing information, creating positive and quality digital content, ethical and safe communication in the online environment. The campaign is organized in partnership with the Media Literacy Coalition.
