Emmanuel Macron ready to “complete” his project “to bring together”
The day after the first round of the presidential election, the President of the Republic and candidate for a second term arrived this Monday shortly before 1 p.m. in Denain in Valenciennes (North). He was welcomed by the city’s PS mayor, Anne-Lise Dufour, who gave him her support.
Emmanuel Macron takes the time to interact with the inhabitants of Denain in the city center and takes selfies when asked. Asked about retirement at 65, he justified his reform but explained that he wanted a discussion on the terms. He recalled that hardship would be taken into account and the minimum pension at 1,100 euros. “You don’t like retirees very much”launched a resident of Denain who came to meet him.
To “convince”, Emmanuel Macron says he is ready to “complete” his project
The president and candidate was also questioned about the purchasing power and the lack of campaigning, debate before the first round. He specified that he wanted to enrich his project, in particular on ecology.
“I don’t want to pretend nothing has happened, I heard the message from those who expressed extreme voices, including those who voted for Mrs Le Pen. I know people will vote for me to do I want to convince so maybe complete my project”he said, seeming to reach out to other parties, including the Insoumis.
“I want to convince everyone, but I want to do it with a new method”did he declare. “I want to convince women and men of different sensitivities. To convince, I have to bring together and to bring together, I have to hear and therefore complete the project that is mine and have a method that cannot be that of five respond”he added.
“I am ready to discuss rhythm and complements” of my program, he assured, while affirming not wanting “device chords”. The Head of State specified that he planned to discuss with “each and every one” leaders of other parties. “I will hear them because they carry some truth.” But “I don’t believe that this clarity comes through device agreements. These choices depend on the exchanges that I will have with each and everyone, but I don’t want to preempt the discussion that I will have”.
“Did we respond quickly and strongly enough? No. But do we have to respond? No more”he continued, adding that he had come “explain the social response”of his project with the credo of “rebuilding the social pact between social and capital”.
A visit to the lands of Marine Le Pen
Denain has been a city on the left for more than a hundred years, a former coal capital. The National Rally made big scores there. Marine Le Pen totaled 41.67% of the vote on Sunday in the first round of the presidential election.
Jean-Luc Mélenchon came second with 28.59%. Emmanuel Macron is third with 14% of the vote. It is for this reason that the outgoing president and candidate is going to this city of 20,000 inhabitants on Monday. He will try to convince people who are not part of his electorate to vote for him in the second round.
“It’s not going to be easy”, estimates Joshua Hochart, municipal councilor RN of Denain. The President of the Republic is far from being on conquered ground. In any case, this is an opportunity for Emmanuel Macron to come back to the social aspect of his program. 40% of the inhabitants live below the poverty line.
After Denain, Emmanuel Macron will continue his trip to Carvin and Lens in Pas-de-Calais, two managed by socialist mayors.
