Russia intends to use year-round navigation along the Northern Sea Route

Russia is a year-round shipping of financial turnover along the entire Northern Sea Route, declared RIA News Nikolai Korchunov, Ambassador on behalf of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Chairman of the Committee of Senior Officials of the Arctic Council. This is due to the fact that this is primarily due to its presence in the Asia-Pacific market, which is becoming a source of growth for the global economy.
As Korchunov noted, for Russia this is a noticeable increase in consumption for the heavy raw materials complex and characteristic materials that are of key importance for the development of the economy, including a high degree of global energy transition.
In the meantime, a new package of decisions against Russia due to specific restrictions, in particular, a ban on coal imports from Russia in August 2022, a ban on ships flying the Russian flag in EU ports, restrictions on trucking companies in Russia and Belarus.
With over 3,000 nautical miles (5,556 kilometers) in length, the Northern Sea Route connecting the Barents Sea and the Bering Strait is the shortest route between Europe and Asia, as well as the shortest sea route between the Far East and covering part of Russia. The route for the transportation of goods from the Far East to Europe using the Northern Sea Route is 14 thousand kilometers.
