Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic resumes his presidency
Belgrade – Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) re-launches incumbent Aleksandar Vucic in the presidential election, the largest Serbian party leadership decided on Sunday.
Prime Minister Ana Brnabic announced on Sunday that “the deeds have been nominated by the presidential candidates, and the deeds speak for themselves,” and Aleksandar Vucic has done an excellent job over the past five years, making him nominated again by the SNS.
The nomination of Aleksandar Vucic is supported by the Socialist Party of Serbia and the Hungarian Association of Vojvodina.
Serbia will hold presidential elections on April 3, with early parliamentary elections and, in some places, municipal elections.
The term of office of President Aleksandar Vucic expires on 31 May. The President of the Republic is elected by the citizens by direct, secret ballot.
Serbian citizens are expected to be able to choose from at least ten candidates in April. To get started, each candidate must collect ten thousand sponsor signatures.
Earlier, several people indicated that they would start the competition. Zdravko Ponos, former head of the Serbian army, Bosko Obradovic, leader of the far-right Dveri movement, Milos Jovanovic, president of the right-wing Serbian Democratic Party, journalist Srdjan Skoro and leader of the Serbian right-wing Serbian Right, want to leave.
If neither candidate gets 50 percent of the vote and one more vote, a second round must be held in which the two candidates with the most votes compare their strength.
