Help for Ukraine: Prague will waive the residence fee for refugees
Refugees from Ukraine who stay in a hotel in Prague do not have to pay a residence fee. It will be enough for people to prove with a Ukrainian passport. The remission will be valid until the end of March. Vít Hofman, a spokesman for the municipality, told ČTK today. In Prague, a new rate of CZK 50 per person per night has been in force since the beginning of the year, until then it was CZK 21. The city agreed with the Association of Hotels and Restaurants of the Czech Republic to waive the fee.
The municipality may waive the stay fee during emergency situations, which the current situation belongs to. The fee is paid by everyone in Prague for the money short-term accommodation. The current forgiveness still applies to the period from 25 February to 31 March, and only hotels managed by the municipality. In the case of other types of accommodation, such as boarding houses or flats, it depends on the decision of the individual city districts.
“It’s about a symbolic gesture based on the obvious assumption that the capital will not capitalize on the suffering of others. The main thanks in this connection are also the Prague hoteliers who are involved in helping the Ukrainians to escape the war crimes of the Russian Federation, “said Deputy Mayor Pavel Vyhnánek (Prague Sobě).
Assistance center
The municipality opened in the central building of the Municipal Library on Tuesday an assistance center for refugees, who can process the necessary documents here and will also receive further assistance.
