“We must be prepared for all possibilities. Therefore, we need to get an overview of suitable facilities for humanitarian accommodation throughout Prague for the people of Ukraine, who are now fleeing in droves from their homeland. Yesterday, I asked in writing for the co-operation of all mayors of Prague’s city districts with a request to select suitable accommodation facilities, both for buildings that have the capacity entrusted to the administration and for private buildings. The premises are available already caught up twice. I want to thank them for their active and voluntary involvement, “says the mayor of hl. m Prague Zdeněk Hřib.
Given the critical and unpredictable situation in Ukraine, it is clear that the country will also need long-term humanitarian aid. That is why yesterday Zastupitelstvo hl. m of Prague, in addition to the already allocated financial assistance in the amount of 10 million crowns, both to look for other opportunities to involve humanitarian and other practical assistance to Ukraine. In the current situation, it is used that people will flee Ukraine from armed aggression, both to neighboring countries and to Central Europe, including the Czech Republic, where a large Ukrainian community lives.
The city needs to have a maximum overview of accommodation capacities that are immediately available, such as unused hostels, dormitories, etc. An informative list will be created from the accommodation capacities, the possible use of which will be coordinated by the Security Department of the City of Prague.
A form for accommodation offers from the public is available HERE. The capital thanks all the citizens of Prague in advance for all the capacity that people will offer. “All Praguers or entrepreneurs in the field of accommodation and hospitality can apply for free accommodation, especially for mothers with small children. You can fill in your accommodation options online. If necessary, assistance will be offered through the municipality in coordination with the Ministry of the Interior, “adds Zdeněk Hřib.
“Yesterday afternoon, I confirmed the key body of our crisis plan at a joint meeting of the governors with the Ministry of the Interior and the chief of fire department. At the request of the Refugee Facilities Center, we are providing the first accommodation for this weekend. According to the requirements that will be continuously exhibited, we will provide them with additional accommodation capacity. A working group on migration issues will also meet at the municipality on Monday morning, “adds Zdeněk Hřib in connection with today’s meeting of the representatives of the Association of Regions of the Czech Republic.
“As a result of the armed conflict, people are leaving their homeland in a hurry without their husbands and fathers, who remain in Ukraine to defend their country. Many individuals and organizations offer practical or material assistance, including accommodation, which is exactly what people need in the first place. That is why we are now trying to create space for the use of offers of help by institutions and individuals. In addition, we are preparing assistance for helpers, for example, to know how to communicate with fleeing people who come full of trauma and anxiety. In situations, it is important that people ask them if they want to talk about them, and respect them if they do not want to, ”describes Milena Johnová, councilor of the capital. m of Prague for social policy and healthcare.
“If necessary, Prague is ready to immediately launch the prepared crisis plan and activate the project Assistance Center for Assistance in cooperation with the fire brigade. The building of the Municipal Library in Prague and its branches were selected for the operation of the assistance center, it is contractually provided between the Municipal Library and the Fire and Rescue Service of the Capital City of Prague in the form of a contract on planned assistance on request. To prepare for the migration wave, I also activated a working group to address the migration wave, consisting of representatives of the integrated rescue system, Prague City Hall, Czech Red Cross, foreigners integration experts and the chairman of the representative committee for national minorities, “concludes the deputy mayor. m of Prague for security Petr Hlubuček.
