France to support Moldova, Georgia to counter “destabilization”
Emmanuel Macron spoke by telephone with Moldovan and Georgian presidents Maia Sandu and Salome Zurabashvili, according to the daily Le Figaro.
“We are determined to support these members of the Eastern Partnership of the European Union in the face of any attempts to create tension or destabilize,” Emmanuel Macron told leaders in Moldova and Georgia, according to the French presidency.
“We stand with the Republic of Moldova and Georgia to defend their sovereignty and security,” said Emmanuel Macron, according to the Elysée Palace. Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili will pay a visit to Paris “early next week”.
On Friday, French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian warned of the possibility of expanding the Russian military offensive from Ukraine to Moldova and Georgia.
