All drivers know it’s necessary, but everyone also knows it’s going to be a purgatory. This is a major reconstruction of Prague’s Barrandov Bridge. According to the Prague City Hall, it will start in May this year, and this is a fixed date, which was confirmed on Tuesday, February 22, by the signing of a contract between the Technical Administration of Roads of the Capital City of Prague. m of Prague and the company PORR, which will carry out the reconstruction.

According to the Technical Administration of Roads m of Prague (TSK) will extend the reconstruction of the life of the bridge by up to 30 years and at the same time increase its load-bearing capacity. The Prague City Hall will then provide that, for the first time ever, reconstruction was one of the most important factors in the public contract. “The public contract for the reconstruction of the Barrandov Bridge was unique. For the first time in the city’s history, we competed so that the length of traffic restrictions had the same weight as the price. We managed to reduce the length of the work to three and a half months from the eight originally expected by the designer. After signing the contract, there is nothing to stop the construction company from taking over the most and starting work during May. “ said Adam Scheinherr, Deputy Mayor of Prague.

Scheinherr also added that the correction comes in minute twelve: “We have done everything to make Prague ready for the reconstruction of the century. It is inevitable. It has been flowing into the bridge for years, and the pre-tensioned ropes that hold it together do not fulfill their function at all. The situation is serious.”

Praguers want better living conditions in the capital. They are most bothered by traffic jams, few parking spaces and the unavailability of housing

The tow truck will be on standby

The good news is that, according to information from the Prague City Hall, a towing service will be constantly prepared near the bridge, which will eventually get any wrecked or broken cars away from the repaired sections so that such long columns do not form. IRS units will also be on standby.

This year, a part of the Barrandov Bridge, including the southern half of the southern bridge, will be repaired. Furthermore, the bridge object, which forms part of the Strakonice ramp, will be removed, and subsequently a new bridge will be built. The upper part of this ramp and the two outer lanes on the bridge in the direction from Smíchov will also be reconstructed, including the dilatation closure on the Barrandovská ramp and before the exit to Braník. Part of the lower bridge over Strakonická Street will also be repaired.

“We are aware that most of the work will bring restrictions for drivers, however, the building has not been renovated for several decades and its repair is absolutely necessary. Also to prevent a possible tragedy, such as the collapse of the bridges in Genoa, Italy, or Pittsburgh, USA, a few weeks ago. “ explained Martin Ředina, director of the Most Constructions area in PORR as
