SIENA AND “RUDE” SHOPPING: ONCE IT HAPPENS
Ideas for reflection, and almost a provocation, in a city that should live with tourism
The main points of reflection always come to us from everyday reality, so once again we take the ball to underline the habits and caricatures of our beloved city in its behavior, uses and malpractice.
It will have happened to you too to enter a shop in the streets of the center of Siena and be squared from head to toe as reserved if you annoy the clerk or clerk on duty: a look between amazed and disgusted, that of an alien or a repellent being, however come from another planet to outrage the quiet loneliness of the ” subjected “on duty.
These commercial workers (obviously not all of them) seem to receive, before the contract, an authentic course of rudeness.
The jokes about orders are now replacing those about the carabinieri, without anyone taking offense. In fact, ours is (perhaps) little more than a provocation.
In its uniqueness, Siena always presents unusual characteristics and we find them also in this situation, where the respect of the public should be greater than in other cities, given the presumption of living from tourism.
On the other hand, however, in an employee work environment, it must be admitted that all franchising chains certainly do not favor the love for one’s work.
When Siena was a city of shops (and shopkeepers) and the customer went inside, he had to deal directly with the owner. This favored good relationships, discounts and education, knowing that it takes 20 years to find a customer and to lose 5 minutes.
Today Siena has perhaps become the first city, certainly not the last, for online purchases simply because essential services to start sensationally lacking for some.
The arrogance of the employee at the shopping center, with a lack of preparation and who considers the customer anything but sacred, means that we arrive at the exams seen today.
To the question: “Excuse me, do you know where the coffee machines are?” the answer, snorting, follows: “I’m not from this department”, without even exchanging a glance with the customer’s eyes.
In the general rabble of an irreverent rudeness, the psychosis of a virus that has lasted for two years is added, accentuating the behavioral phobias of exasperated individuals.
So friends, when you cross the threshold of a business, remember to always thank the good sales people and to forgive those who will look at you as that if you had not entered it would have been much better, as if you never came back, it’s okay, as if a spite this was certainly not to be done, not to him / her at that time and day, even dirtying the floor that one has to clean up, or by pulling out a pair of pants that he / she must then put them back in place! Well no! You don’t do these things to a shop assistant!
You will remain, in the near future, very fond of your PC that with the usual click will get you everything you want, overwhelmed by a compulsive shopping, buying above all what you don’t need but you will have lost humanity (but also sympathy, the professionalism and experience) of your trusted shopkeeper who, except for very special activities, you will no longer find.
And you will not be able to make those two right words that I have called you shopping with satisfaction …
