Federal Captain Ivkovics Stojan’s task in the Phoenix Hall was complicated by the fact that he did not count on Szilárd Benke and János Eilingsfeld, who were the main man, due to injury. The recently introduced American-born Mikael Hopkins, who plays in Reggio Emilia, Italy, made his debut for the home team.
The Hungarians did not pass at all in the audience, as more than five thousand people encouraged Vojvoda Dávidék in the Debrecen arena.
The team only led 2-0, from where the five Spanish legionary opponents took the initiative and were already ten points away in the middle of the second quarter (15-25). Vojvoda and 36-year-old Csaba Ferencz delivered the points mainly from the hosts, but the latter was forced to go to the bench with four personal fouls. Meanwhile, Bojan Dubljevic, who is strengthening Valencia on the other side, was already at 12 points as the best in the field. After some questionable court rulings, Captain Ivkovics received two technical errors for the complaint, the post was 28-36 during the break.
After the turn, before the Hungarian bench, the team was no longer led by Ivkovics, who was on display, but by the second coach Péter Pór, who caught up with three points. Soon, however, the difference was 15 points, Hopkins got his first basket as a Hungarian with a triple, but by that time he was 44-60 in the big class. In the case of the Montenegrins, Vladimir Mihailovic threw his 21st point, at that time he seemed to swim away in the match, and he couldn’t catch up.
The two teams will also clash in Pogorica on Sunday.
There will be 32 teams competing in the European World Cup qualifiers until February 2023.
